FWG: Providing Peace Of Mind With Superior Security Solutions & A Trusted Partner For Corporations
Protecting Assets, Reputation, Lives With Advance Methods To Ensure Safety At All Times
According to the Department of Statistics 2021 Crime Index report, there were 65,623 cases involving violent and property crimes, property crimes which involves theft, break-ins, vehicle theft and other thefts, were a total of 21,579 cases.
While there are no specific data on robbery in commercial buildings or the value of loss due to such acts, the fact that an average of 178 cases occur in a day is very concerning. Also, the statistics published by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) needs to be considered as during the pandemic, the nation was mostly in lockdown for most part of the year.
The nation’s security force which are the police have been excellent in discharging their duties and have been keeping the country safe for most of the period. However, its clearly understandable that even the best police force in the world can’t be everywhere at every single time to prevent a crime from happening.
This is when the service of the next best solution is required, a professional accredited security agency have well trained officers and solutions who are capable in ensuring valuable assets, premises and lives are protected on a 24/7 basis.
Corporates rely on these agencies to maintain security, vigilance and even safety in their premise or factories. These brave men and women are often the first point of contact be it to stop any premise from incurring losses to ensuring emergency services are on their way.
Losses here could not only mean assets or financials, but it could mean timely response by the police and medical staff to save lives.
Giving BusinessToday an insight into the often not spoken about industry, FWG (Frieghtwatch G Patomotoh Security Services Sdn.Bhd) Executive Director Datuk Krishnan Sukumaran shared his views on the topic.
“Accredited security guard services are the first line of defence for any industry,” Datuk Krishnan, who was joined by the total security solution provider’s Managing Director Dato’ Sri Gandi Muthusamy gave their opinion on the perception and trends of security services in Malaysia as well as in a global context.
When ones talk about accredited guards, it means the guards are trained constantly to equip them with the latest methods in establishing a secure environment. It has been said that there is close 1000 licensed security companies in Malaysia but sadly, most of the companies do not look into what is needed by the industry to meet the training requirements set by the authorities and needed by the security personnel. At this juncture, it’s vital to have this understanding in order to capture the multi-national businesses which requires these entities to be upheld.
FWG which was established in 1995, is the pioneer Malaysian security company to receive the WorldCob Trusted Seal which recognises a business for their trust worthiness. Having observed the needs of clients, the group was clear that the best way to ensure clients are well protected is to provide a total security solution and not merely to place boots on the grounds. This meant FWG needed to be an advisor to the client for all their security needs, and help identify gaps which could be breached.
“Our goal is to help industrial; commercial and government clients mitigate their exposure to security risks by using proven and practical risk-based decision-making processes. Our competencies cross numerous facets of operational security risk. We align real-world experience, credible security practices, technologies and people with your business goals to create a lean, purpose-driven security program that increases your operational security value,” Datuk Krishnan said.
He explained, an instance of this was seen during the COVID-19 pandemic where security personnel played an important role to ensure rules were followed, they helped (and are still helping) with crowd control at the premises and disallowed those who are infected with the disease from entering and spreading it to other workers at plants and places of business.
The implication is safety is of utmost concern and if this is not followed, many plants, factories and businesses might have to shut down resulting in huge losses. Thus, the value of an accredited security service company, like FWG, is to bring about cost savings for each client.
Technology And People
At the heart of the company is the people, security personnel are an integral part of the organisation. FWG conducts international standard training for all its uniformed guards and assures clients they are well capable before deploying them. But that’s not all, FWG also incorporates the latest technology when it comes to surveillance.
Datuk Krishnan said: “We are a total security solutions provider and partners to all our clients. We bring with us a strong knowledge and experience in security to provide professional advice, which spans from building design, drone surveillance, biometrics applications, RFID technology and everything in between. We are not merely a manpower company with guards although they make up an indispensable part of the company.”
Among the services provided by FWG include consultancy, risk management and solutions, central monitoring, surveillance and physical security. FWG’s business units include Guarding & Operations, Visitor Management Systems, Alarms & Access Control, Surveillance Solutions, Canine Unit and Safety & Risk Management.
“A key advantage which FWG has is knowing that every business is different and needs a tailored security service to fit their needs, and each of our business units are scalable based on need,” he added.
In addition, FWG offers a centralised monitoring system with a robust and reliable surveillance capabilities such as the ability to monitor high-traffic areas from one location while also minimising the potential costs from building separate security offices. Rather than upgrading or installing a brand-new security system, a centralised system provides companies with the ability to ensure the safety of all employees and a secured company.
Trusted By Multinationals and GLCs
The group provides its services to some of the biggest corporate names in the country, due to security (no pun intended) the group could not name the companies for this interview. However, Datuk Krishnan said FWG predominantly has a major share of the mid to high-end market, which means their clients include Multi-National Corporations, Government-linked Companies spanning across manufacturing, banks and financial institutions, logistics, to telecommunication and the retail sector.
“These large business concerns have stringent high compliance standards which we have to adhere to and FWG is audited by these global and local authorities annually, not to mention by the clients themselves who wants to ensure that our services or promise is up to mark.” he remarked.
This is where the certifications and accreditations matter. FWG undergoes various audits yearly where the company is evaluated based on criteria set by international bodies which have guided the company to set its own policies and procedures.
All FWG members from middle management and above are certified as trainers and practitioners by compliance standards organisations, among them being the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) and the Chartered International Institute of Security & Crisis Management (CIISCM). These helps us present clear and seamless solutions to our clients as we are audited almost every month both by bodies and clients themselves.
“We are transparent in all matters and, with our enterprise resource planning application, we reveal the pay structure right down to the costings involved to each client.
“Today, we have earned a number of accreditations and multiple business awards for our quality management expertise and assurance. Accredited management offers our clients ‘security’ that they have made the right choice – to ensure the premise, process, remote and on-site monitoring, problem escalation control methods are deployed to keep their environment safe,” said Datuk Krishnan.
The success of the company can be credited to its completion of 206 projects, the 870 contractors which it has appointed and 12 Malaysian and international awards that has been won.
Asked on what are the core competencies of FWG as against other state-of-the-art security systems, Datuk Krishnan said, it’s the solutions we deploy and the compliance standards which gives FWG upper competitive edge and constantly striving to be above the rest.
We believe in sustaining our existing clients and growing with them as partners and then after look towards new business. This is driven by our core values to provide consistent, reliable and quality service through best practices and effective technology. FWG is known for being transparent in what we do while being consistent, reliable and provide quality services via effective technology and best practices.
In practicing these values, FWG has earned trust and client sustainability, where most of them have been with us for the last 10 to 20 years.
Security has a broader definition; from the holistic view it starts from revenue generation to its performance and even up how competitive the company is in an industry.
On challenges facing the industry, Dato’ Sri Gandi said “talent”, the perception towards the job posed an obstacle to hiring locals. FWG, say they pay higher wages and also provide other fringe benefit in order to sustain the guard.
Proud of their training standards, FWG officers need to have a balance of formal education and industry-specific certifications in order to be competitive and effective in their position.
Learning continues throughout the career of a security officer. This, coupled with trust, is at the forefront of the company’s service in being an end-to end urban security solution provider.
FWG a name that might not ring a bell, but the group is engaged by some of the biggest enterprises in the country and has been their trusted partner for decades. The company’s reputation is well established in the industry so much so it has expanded outside the country with its presence now in India, moving on for ventures in Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Singapore to the US soon.
